Michels Corporation currently has an opportunity for a Survey Engineer; project based in Columbus, Ohio; willing to work in the Tunnel Construction environment.  The work will include a wide-range of surveying basic surveying practices including construction staking to control networks.

The essential duties and responsibilities of the position include, but not limited to:

  • Survey network design including GNSS network designs, conventional (direction sets, slope distances, and zenith angles), and vertical (leveling) networks;
  • Understanding of GNSS processing; conventional observation reductions, level reductions;
  • Basic understanding of gyro-theodolites and mining surveying techniques;
  • Least squares adjustments and statistical analysis of results;
  • Understanding of Geodesy is beneficial;
  • Knowledge in deformation (settlement) surveys;
  • Understanding of coordinate geometry.
  • Working underground around TBM and EPBM boring machines

Qualified candidates should be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Surveying Engineering, Surveying or Geomatics. Candidates must be willing to travel to other locations on short notice as well as relocate for long term on certain projects. Experience using AutoCAD and GPS equipment is preferred.
